Jozef van Wissem
Nov. 3rd, 2018 13:49There is this quite famouse lutist, Jozef van Wissem. First of all famous by his compisitions in Jarmusch' movie though.
It was nice occasion to visit his concert without travelling somewhere and within some other circumstances, but concert itself raised few questions towards this man's personality.
Concert took place in organ hall, in a place that nicely suits chamber music and has appropriate sound profile. However, one could easily ruin his own music even in a such place if he really wants to :) So, it was surprising for me to listen to music played by the man who doesn't love it or simply doesn't care about his listeners. Any choice leads to the question what for it was done in a such manner.
In fact, there should be two concerts, one after another, but the second one was cancelled. Also, actual time of the concert was about 40-45 minutes. Add this to the clearly egoistic signs from the musician that had shown he not only expects but demands applauds. And music, that turned to be badly presented and nearly indistinguishable one composition from another after 10-15 minutes in play.
In all set, I liked one short moment in which music really touched me and I'm sure that if van Wissem cared more then it would be magnificent event. Alas it wasn't the case.
